Audio Walks

October 12, 2010 § Leave a comment

Over the summer I made 8 walks from my house N, NE, E, SE, S, SW, W and NW for 82.5 minutes each before turning round and walking home. The outward journeys were recorded by a Dictaphone taped to a walking stick. The overall shape created was that of a Mandala, a Buddhist symbolic representation of the Universe. The timing was derived from the Universes approximate age of 13.75 billion years, on my scale one hour of audio is equal to 10 billion years real time, or each second being equal to 2,777,777 years.

On the 16th of October I am setting up my first installation of this work, using 8 CD players arrange in a circle to play all 8 walks in sync. The piece will be installed in Edinburgh College of Art room E3 in the main building; all are welcome to come along between 12-17pm.

Installation shots coming soon.
