Through an exploration of the landscape I intend to investigate issues of identity on both a personal and national level.
Having spent the last three and a half years in Scotland my interest in the landscape has come to focus on how an environment can help craft a sense of national identity. The differences between the English, Scottish, Welsh and Northern Irish landscapes are relatively minor, yet each nation has created a romanticised perception of its countryside: which in turn played a key role in the creation of very separate identities. It is my intention to confront these divisions and histories through exploration and interaction with the landscape.
